KAYSVILLE, Oct. 25, 1890
- Last Tuesday evening fire was discovered on the premises of joseph O. Walsh. Upon investigation it was discovered that his stacks and sheds were on fire. The neighbors gathered as soon as possible and did all they could to put out the fire, but it had obtained such headway that they were only able to save his buggy. The fire is supposed to be the work of an incendiary. Loss about $100; no insurance.
- On Thursday evening, the Hon. Chas. W. Penrose addressed a large and enthusiastic audience under the auspices of the Kaysville Peoples party club upon the political situation. Mr. Penrose reviewed at length the doings of the two political parties, and showed conclusively that while the People’s party was an advocate for liberty of all before the law, the liberal party advocated disfranchising the majority of the citizens of Utah, for what someone else had done. The record of the two candidates for Representative Hon. John T. Caine and C. C. Goodwin was shown in a masterly style, and the people asked to make their choice of the men and then vote for him on Nov. 4th. Mr. Penrose certainly was at his best, as he was frequently applauded, and the audience appreciated his remarks. The best thing of the whole evening was when one of our ex-councilman, ex-mayor, ex-selectman and ex-member of the legislature, besides about a dozen other ex’s tried to correct Mr. Penrose in regard to one of his statements. Mr. Penrose listened to what he had to say, and convinced him that he was wrong; then turning to the audience he remarked that Mr. —- was living in the past. This brought down the house. Three cheers were given with a will for Hon. John T Caine, and every one seemed determined to work for the success of the People’s party candidate. Next week the People’s party will hold four rallies in the county and the Liberals one or more, so that we are not going to be idle, but everything will be done to bring out a full vote on election day.
- Quite a number of buildings have been erected here this year.
