2020 is officially Kaysville’s Year of Equal Suffrage. We honor those who paved the way, those who work today, and those who will move forward with the effort in the future. Come honor courageous women and bring your daughters to hear the of the storied efforts of Kaysville Suffragists 150 years ago! Lend your support to a worthwhile cause.
Please join us Thursday, February 7, 2020, at 7 p.m. at the beginning of Kaysville’s city council meeting when Mayor Katie Witt will sign a proclamation designating 2020 as the Year of Equal Suffrage in Kaysville.
Jointly with the Kaysville-Fruit Heights Museum, the council will celebrate the ladies of our community who, with resolve and passionate determination, fought for voting rights. Learn how great change came about thanks, in part, to hardworking local activists. Business Resource Center of the Davis Technical College, 450 South Simmons Way, Kaysville, UT.
It was such a fun event at the Kaysville City council meeting as the suffrage proclamation was signed. Kudos to all the members of our team. We had the cutest kids who wanted to know more about Kaysville’s HERitage come hold signs!

Our Inspiring Essay Winners
The Kaysville Fruit Heights Museum of History and Art is pleased to announce the winners of the Women’s Suffrage Essay Contest The winners are Kaden West, first place; Olivia Montero, second place; and Kaylee Hull, third place. Kaysville and Fruit Heights have been designated HERitage cities and are actively celebrating the women and men who secured the right of all Americans to vote.
The winners wrote astute and thought-provoking essays about women’s civic virtue and the strength equal suffrage brings our country. Mr- West’s well-researched essay notes that Our lives would be comparably inferior in a life without women’s suffrage.” Miss. Montero’s whimsical essay notes that “The United States is different today because of the changes [women] sought.” Miss Hull concludes that “Women’s suffrage is such a great and powerful thing and even though the fight to get it was long and hard it was very worth it.”
2020 is a yearlong celebration of the 150th anniversary of Utah women receiving the right to vote even though it was taken away soon after. 2020 is also the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment and 55th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act which protects the voting rights of all United States citizens regardless of race or gender.
The winners will receive a cash prize of $100 (first place), $50 (second place), and S2S (third place), made possible by a generous donation from Reading Horizons. All other participants will receive a FiiZ Drinks gift card courtesy of FiiZ Drinks.
